Travel Immunisations /
vaccinations
Patients will be required to
complete a Travel Immunisation
Questionnaire. Please request one
from the Practice Reception or you
can download one via the link below:
The completed form will then need to
be handed in to the Practice to be
reviewed by the Practice Nurse.
The Practice will then contact the
patient to book an appointment if
required. Please note that this
process requires the patient to
complete the form and return to the
Practice at least eight weeks in
advance of your holiday to ensure
adequate cover.
A charge will be made for certain
immunisations and vaccinations that
are not covered by the NHS. A list
of these charges is held at
reception
When you travel abroad it is often
worth considering whether any
special health precautions may be
required.
In many countries sanitation is not
as good as in the UK, and in
addition many
hotter countries carry
risks of tropical diseases not found
in the UK.
When planning a trip you need to
consider whether you are up to date
with the immunisations that are
recommended for living in the UK
(e.g. Tetanus, Polio) and whether
any additional immunisations are
required for countries that you are
visiting or travelling through
(common ones include Typhoid,
Hepatitis A, and there are less
common requirements such as Yellow
Fever, Rabies, Japanese
Encephalitis, and others).
Besides immunisations you should
also consider anti-malarial
precautions, and extra attention to
hygiene of food and water. Eric Moore
Partnership is able to administer
all necessary immunisations except
for Yellow Fever when required (you
will need to make separate
arrangements with a registered
Yellow Fever Immunisation Centre).
Please take particular care in
stating your destination and any
stopovers. We do not need to know
the name of your hotel or resort,
but we do need to know the country
and the area of that country (e.g.
costal or mountainous, North or
South East).
Stopovers are important but often
forgotten about. In some countries
if you land just for refuelling and
don't even leave the plane it may
still be necessary to take
anti-malarial tablets. Make sure
that you include stopovers when
completing the form.
Finally, to ensure a good trip,
there are other non-medical
precautions that you need to take
care about.
Be sensible about exposure to the
sun, and use high factor sunscreens.
Equally if you are going to a cold
place e.g. a skiing holiday take
plenty of warm clothing.
Be aware of differing customs in
other countries and take care not to
offend.
Some places have high crime rates
and tourists are often targeted as
easy victims who may be carrying
plenty of money and valuable camera
equipment. Passports are also
popular with thieves. Don't become a
victim of holiday crime. You don't
want to return to a crime scene
either, your house having been
ransacked during your absence. Don't
broadcast your holiday dates. If
possible make arrangements with
neighbours so that your house
appears lived in during your
absence.
